Election Posters – 2010

The 2010 British Election campaign was very much a head to head between Gordon Brown and David Cameron. That’s how the propaganda campaign developed from both Labour and the Conservative parties. This was soon to be endorsed by a street poster campaign mainly by the Conservatives. Using full face images of either of the leaders, the posters carried a punchy statement, e.g. with the face of Brown, the message would be negative: “this is how much he’s mucked up” and with Cameron, positive: “this is what I’ll do for you”.
The posters deployment depended where one lived, marginals were targeted to catch the swing voter and certainly in Hemel Hempstead, Watford and St Albans this was the case. Some of the London locations were used to catch the commuter possibly moving on to a marginal.
As a photographic project this appealed to me, I found these posters rather attractive within a street scene. If they were too low, the message could be modified which was fun and graphic.
